I've found checkin staff in HYD to be so strict on the one cabin bag policy that they won't even let me take my slim laptop sleeve on separately (until I beg), which I keep down at my feet anyway.
It's routine on these flights to see a football field of bags scattered at the entrance of the jetway being gate-checked. Notably on the routes into India there are also the assortment of duty free bags and goodies which of course EK always permits ON TOP of cabin bags.
