just fyi, closing the account yourself does not mean it will lessen the impact on your ability to open new bank accounts later. The bank will still report even if you close the account anytime soon. Once you get hit with derogatory reports on Chexsystem, you may not be able to open new bank accounts. I know personally of one who got this negative report and the bank wouldn't budge to remove the report they filed on her. It hurt her ability to open new bank accounts to get the bonuses.
But it should not impact the accounts with banks where i have long standing relationships with will it? Would I be able to open new ones in those banks if i wanted to? How long would a negative mark impact me?
Honestly the last checking account i opened was 3 or 4 years ago. I don't open them very often or go for the bonuses. I do more cc.
