Past trips can be recovered on regular iPads etc and maybe on an iPhone too but in an airport scene surrounded by luggage and so on this is not the time be be researching workarounds on an iPhone.
Both the app and the website allow you to access "Past" trips very easily. For example, in the app, if you click on "Trips," you are given the further option to switch between "Upcoming Trips" and "Past Trips." Were you unable to find your trip under either?
