Peregrine no longer exists. Back in 2003, the SEC charged them with fraud. They went through bankruptcy and were eventually acquired/absorbed by Hewlett-Packard in 2005. Given the fraud charges, I guess it's not a far stretch for someone to now use a fake ID to get an Avis discount under their name.
I'd argue that this is a code worth killing--it associates FTers with a company which no longer exists and which exited the scene under dubious circumstances. I'd much rather be using valid codes from valid companies, so I can at least argue my case at the counter in being "associated with" said company in some way. How can
Long Islander (or anyone) deny attempted fraud when standing at the Avis counter using this particular code?
A colleague recently used this in Miami over the holiday, said no problem with pickup or drop off, car was 50% less than any other offering and included LDW..
