This problem is especially true of Airbnb. With Airbnb being a "sponsor" of the Olympics they have signed up a lot of new apartments and owners that have absolutely no reviews. It is really a case of buyer beware.

One good note is that Brazil has waived the visa requirement for US citizens for during the Olympics.
