My guess is you will not lose your PQMs.
What matters is what NZ reports to UA -- NZ makes the decision on mileage earning when you fly them.
What R is on NZ, the NZ folks will need to answer.

Best not to assume that a fare class on one carrier have the same meaning as another carrier. There are multiple *A carriers where R is a paid fare class and not the upgrade fare class that UA uses. It appears it may be true here but someone more familiar with NZ needs to verify.
