Courtesy, classiness, and comfort cost extra for pax, especially with US carriers (though not exclusively). And even then they're often omitted. But this is a success for airline investors, neh? Trimming the fat makes everybody on the business end of ops cranky: crew, agents, and pax.
I'm just heartened that these events are relatively rare.
I've been an active flyer since '92 and it was the first time I've had such a problem. Such people are the exception, not the rule.
