Not dramatic if you lose time at passport control when short on time connecting from one flight to another.
In the past people did not like to transfer between planes at CDG because even arriving from a Schengen point of origin one would have to go through security and the additional time that took created the risk to miss the connection.
Now, whilst there is no security control anymore when transferring from Schengen, there is passport control which may add a delay to the transfer time and thus create a risk to miss connecting flights.
As for ID checks, not sure you are right. For instance no ID checks within Switzerland, no (systematic) ID checks for Switzerland-France, and plenty of others. Yes, there is a rule that when traveling between Schengen countries passengers have to carry some form of ID with them, and that has always been the case. But it's not true that there are systematic ID checks on intra-Schengen flights.
This being said, Shengen is dead.
It was never alive. If it's S
chengen you mean

, it fortunately isn't all quite dead yet. Let's hope they overhaul it in a meaningful way so that it won't actually die.
