Sorry, I have read most of this thread and can't tell. I am new and previously with UA. There if there is R space, you can apply miles or an instrument and confirm the C seat upon purchase.

Is there anyway to do something similar at AA? Or is it always the lottery and waiting to clear close to or at boarding?

I will make EXP after my flight this weekend.
