Keeping the SD hovering in J for 9 pax never seemed like a fair distribution of the workload aboard this aircraft. Regardless of the crew complement, most of us would and will assist in Y.
Having the SD "hovering" for 9 may not be a "fair distribution" of the workload, but those 9 people are paying for better service. When the SD disappears into the back for an hour, it's not "worse" service, it's NO service.

And you wouldn't. The time frame of these flights allows for a quick snack/meal and a drink.
And they used to allow for two to three drinks.
