After the introduction of AC metal requirement, I wasn't expecting my residency to work for the reduced mileage requirement - but shockingly, it did.
I'm guessing one of the reasons for AQD might have been that the AC AQM requirement was easily subverted by "moving" to another country. No proof required, etc. UA makes you fax paperwork to prove you're a resident; not AC. You'll see a note now that geographical residency has no more bearing on minimum AQD ... I suspect it's related to that.
That is much simpler.
Remember, this is the airline that proudly announced last year that you would finally be able to select your seats online for a ticket that wasn't bougth on their website (welcome to 2008...) only to never actually pull it off. Even a LCC can do that!
If they can't do something simple like that, or allow you to make changes to tickets not bought on their website, how will they possibly have the skills to extract ticket costs correctly. Nevermind throwing in codeshares and prorated cost vs distance.
I foresee an unmitigated disaster for at least the first 6 months.
