Is anyone else looking at JAL as an option and scratching their heads? I took a look at this calculator for "Fly On Points" (FOP) and it looks about as bad as MPC.

My pattern is long-haul NRT/HKG/SIN->North America about 10X per year in Y/Y+ (company policy) and FOP has a 1X multiplier on JAL. So you're actually penalised for flying long haul rather than regional (Asia flights are a 1.5X multplier, domestic Japan flights 2X).

Perhaps this is Japanese-style Galapagos logic.

FWIW, I think I'll just end up moving to AA since US lounge access doesn't matter to me at all.
