Many people love the Chase Sapphire Preferred (40K bonus pts and info on Chase UR forum) because it earns UR pts that can be transferred to numerous airlines & hotels. I'd get that first because Chase won't let you get it if you've applied for too many cards (~5) in the past year. You can apply for a CITI card (maybe AA for 50K miles) a few seconds later.

Wait a month. or so, and then apply for the Chase UA MP card. Then wait another month, or so, and apply for one of the Chase hotel cards of your choice. Both the Hyatt and IHG give you a free night on your anniversary. All these cards have individual threads.
