For example, switching from ORD-DFW-HKG to ORD-PEK-HKG, if there is C space open on ORD-PEK.
You can do it, but you are going to pay the change fee and the difference in the ticket price which is now likely high since it would be last minute.
A tried switching to a different flight to NRT a few weeks ago that had a lot of C inventory, but the ticket price change made it prohibitive.
