I've had it happen a couple of times that I logged in, then went to Book a flight only to notice that the yellow box in the upper right had lost my account info and said MileagePlus Sign in or join. Somehow, it is losing the login info when you go to the reservations page. If I do a back page and try again, it usually picks up my account info. It is possible this is what happened to you and it did not have your creds set to allow E+. Yes, a bug in the site, but easy to fix if you watch for it.
