Associates may continue to ask you for your verbal password when verifying account ownership, however. If your web pasword and verbal password are the same, I recommend changing one or the other as soon as possible.

If anyone asks you for your web password, get their user id and ask for a supervisor or send the issue to one of us.

I'd be anything but surprised if many customers asked for a verbal password have been supplying their account's web password (if the two passwords are even different) when trying to access their online account but having problems with accessing it. When CSRs ask for verbal passwords for customers to access their account, it's anything but certain that the CSRs are prepping the the customer so as to avoid confusion between "verbal password" and "online/web password" and the customer giving up their web/online password when they shouldn't give it over.

I personally find it sort of cute that when I go online to access an SPG account on spg.com that I'm asked also for my verbal password after entering my online/web password just a bit earlier. Not exactly sure who came up with this "genius" set-up, but it's not the kind of multi-factor or back-up authentication that I fancy.
