Recently, I was on a flight from LAX to SIN via NRT. Due to a late arrival at NRT, I missed my connection to SIN. I was confirmed in J all the way with GUCs. The SC agent said that she could only put me in Y on another carrier even though there was J space available.

I ask because I thought that UGs that involve certs or miles means that ticket is treated as a J/F ticket. After all, if my RUC or GUC clears for a JFK-MIA flight, I can SDC as long as there is a seat up front regardless of fare class. Is this not the case on international flights?

(I should note that a DM agent was willing to rebook me in J on NH after consulting with a supervisor. So, I'm not sure what the SOP is supposed to be. Then again, I don't know if this particular DM was trying to be as flexible and accommodating as possible.)
