No, not really. I have had a couple issues at the airport when they wouldn't waive baggage fees for companions, but I haven't offended anyone.
Hope it's not DL doing it to their own customers. In order to cancel a reservation, you will have to provide certain information (pax name, flight details, parent's name, DOB) right?
The only people that know that are my real parents, some close friends, and DL agents obviously.
