Rimowa takes a beating but it's a beating that shows. Lots of luxury good buyers don't really appreciate their luxury goods looking like the cat dragged them in, so I expect reviews like that are to be expected.
My much cheaper suitcases take the same or worse beating and don't look like they've been beaten up as badly. That said, my non-Rimowa carry-on bags (including B&R) never get compliments the way my Rimowa gets compliments from people (including airline and hotel check-in desk personnel).
The scratches you see on Rimowa are a point of pride for most owners. They don't make the bags ugly, and they show you are a real traveler.
