Status is given automatically as a product of having the card. It has nothing to with actually doing spend on it. However like the last poster stated, it can take a while. I think others mentioned that it didn't change until after they received the card. However, it definitely shouldn't take 6 weeks. (I didn't in my case.)
I don't think that statement is quite accurate. I had my card for maybe 10 days and still did not have card status. As soon as I finished the required spend, the new status was reflected in my account. Now maybe it was a coincidence that the status just showed after my spend was completed... I don't know. But I hadn't even received my statement and the new status was there.
