I'll be travelling:

USA-HKG
HKG-TPE
HKG-USA

On an Asia Miles award redemption. And then a separate
KHH/TPE-HKG ticket on Avios.

The TPE-HKG-USA will be a transit in HK of less than 24 hours on the same day. All four journeys on Cathay Pacific.

I know the official answer is I won't be protected in case the TPE-HKG flight is delayed since it's on a different ticket. But I read that Cathay has been pretty accommodating in this area - and this will be transiting through HKG too.

So what you think? Will I be protected / put on the next HKG-USA flight if my TPE-HKG flight ends up being delayed / cancelled due to WX, etc?
