My suggestion for a Chicago hotel is the independent Hotel Allegro. It is a beautiful old art deco hotel, with an excellent restoration completed. The room are nice and the lobby has a nice bar.

Also, it is an easy walk to transportation, Marshall Field's, and plenty of good restaurants.
