Not sure about that. AmEx got hit so hard with Costco and others' ending their agreements that they might have no choice but to reduce their swipe fees to be more in line with Visa/MC. Some smaller businesses might see a significant falloff in AmEx use when Costco's cards finally become Citi cards and decide to stop accepting it if there's no/little fee reduction.

and sticking around for the long haul? We don't know yet but considering that Citi has had even more lucrative cards (IIRC) in the past and discontinued them it doesn't look promising.
