I'm a very light user of both voice and data, but I like the idea of being able to check and send short emails while traveling without eating into my voice minutes.
From further reading, it seems that the right way to do this is to add "unlimited tzones" to any voice plan for $4.99 a month.

says this "includes unlimited Internet e-mail and Mobile Web content". This seems a pretty good deal to me, and international roaming is just 1.5 cents a kb and a few tens of kb a day will serve my purposes.
Discussion on other sites suggests the tzones thing is only supposed to be used from the phone itself, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to use my Palm as I do at present for CSD.
