I guess the question is how much time do you want to put into resolving this? If it's an older phone, this problem could be solved with a software update of the phone (I know that some of the older phone versions, such as r2b025).
If you have ATT, I'd even let you borrow my older Nokia 8360 to borrow while you have the process done (takes a week).
When did you buy your phone?
