I think the 10kg is a limit set by regulators/transport canada. Apparently it's a safety issue, 10kg falling on someone's head is not as bad as 20kg. If they could allow unlimited weight I think a lot of us wouldn't be so adverse to this.

But again, this is still way better than euro airlines where all you get is 1x 7kg carry on.
