How far in the future is your trip? I agree with some of the above: cross your fingers and hope for a schedule change. DO NOT SKIP ANY FLIGHTS ON YOUR CURRENT BOOKING unless you change them with AA beforehand!!

If you don't get one, flights from the bay area (SFO, OAK, SJC) to LA are frequent and cheap on several different airlines.

Or maybe you could talk your friends into a road trip down to LA for a few days and oh by the way could you drop me off at LAX too? It's about a 6 hour drive depending on your exact departure and destination locations.
