Union Pay is monopoly in China and some of their networks are Chinese issued cards only. Whereas Union Pay cards work everywhere in the US.
Was the card actually not accepted when you went to swipe? Or did the cashier just refuse to try it? Two separate issues. You can print this out

There is also the JCB Marukai card, it has 1.1% transaction fee but up to 3% cash back and it is a Union Pay card so it should have absolutely no issues in China at all. Only available to residents in select states though.
Are there any other Union Pay cards (preferably with no FTF) available in the US?
