I personally think the 777 with spacebeds have a little more space. That's because they lay em out 2-2-2 vs 2-3-2 on the old seats.

On the 744 it's still 2-3-2 on the main deck and 2-2 on the upper deck so apart from taking out one row upstairs and 4 seats downstairs, nothing much has changed. The aisles have (IMHO) become narrower. Having said that, there are a few nice cozy seats on the 744 which if you can score, are better than any spacebed seat on the 777.

In short the 777 spacebed seats are more homogeneous and less of a crap shoot if you don't know what seats to choose. On the 744, Get 17A or K and enjoy your flight. Get stuck with a E seat downstairs and you're screwed.
