To anyone not believing OP's account I can attest that this is NOT the first time I have heard of ST/DL clawing back significant amounts of miles. I had heard of this over a year ago (not on FT). It is definitely a real risk.

More info on claw backs? I want to hit hard over the next two months, but don't know want to do it hard enough that they will take all the miles back.
