I've not heard or seen any Marriott hotel walking a guest when they weren't full, but if they did, you would be entitled to the Ultimate Reservation Guarantee which means they would pay for your room at a comparable hotel, get you to that hotel, and pay you for the inconvenience (the amount depends on the hotel brand.)

So I'm not sure any reservation "simplifications" would ever be worth it to a hotel to walk an elite member.
