Actually, Global Entry is by Customs and Border Patrol, nothing to do with TSA. That said, I travel all the time with my Global Entry ID. No problems there. It's certainly a government-issued ID. Won't really work for getting in the PreCheck line though - I doubt many agents would allow that.
The reference to the TSA agent not recognizing an ID from his own agency was regarding the sister who had a
Homeland Security Pass, not Global Entry, so definitely it was his own agency
