I would never count on stacking benefits with boutique hotels. If it's FHR combined with elite status at a chain like Starwood or Intercontinental, we know that works. But with privately owned and managed properties I would not expect stacking to work.
Guess it depends...sometimes I have more luck with the small/private than the mega-corps (who often have more stringent, hard and fast rules).
