The GPU benefit that was once meaningful to me on UA has been mostly degraded to the point that I no longer consider it a tie breaker benefit anymore. It's mostly a hollow promise to get stressed out hoping that a GPU might clear after paying more money to be able to play a lottery. Flights where I can use a GPU at time of booking are so rare and I don't blame UA for trying to sell the seats if they can. For me however I'm done gambling on a buying higher fares for no good reason other than a hope.
