Target has a fairly smart point-of-sale system because they need to be able to identify what is a food item (and thus may not be taxable), what is WIC/EBT elegible, and what is FSA eligible.

They do clearly state gift cards are NOT a part of the 5% discount.
What if buy $400 VGC + a bottle of milk?
