last week at JFK T7 departures, we were told to keep boarding pass in hand when going through security screening....

On a general note, I prefer keeping my passport with me when going through security rather than leaving it in my jacket/carry-on, etc.
Some airports in Europe (such as VIE) want to also have passports go through the x-ray scanners.....weird
