When they say stays using certs don't count, I think they mean free night certs, not upgrade certs. The only stay I ever had that didn't qualify was a free night redemption.
Strange! We were just at Kea Lani Maui for 4 nights last month and we used two certificates (free night and 3rd night free). So we paid for 2 nights only and it showed 4 nights as qualifying nights.
