I hear ya. A mixed six here usually runs $12 for beers that might be $8-9 for a sixpack. But if the product is fruit flavored, I'm gonna weigh the risk against the cost and probably add one bottle of it to five other medium-high risk beers.
Cost Plus here does singles but the cost can be quite a bit higher than $2. Again, if it looks risky but I just might like it, I'll spend the $3-5.
I'm taking fewer chances these days at the packy, but more at the bar. At one of my favorite locals, there are 65 ever-changing taps. Every time I think I've tried them all, there's a couple new ones.
I cleaned out the beer pantry over Christmas and threw out 9 bottles that I couldn't choke down. That hurt.
On that note, have you ever tried Sweet Baby Jesus from DuClaw Brewing Co.? Supposed to be chocolate and peanut butter. The husband of a co-worker says it's good stuff, but I'm a little afraid to buy a 4- or 6-pack. Can't find a single bottle anywhere I've looked, so I thought I'd ask here. Seems like it could easily be on someone's "Worst Drink You've Ever Had" list, or I might find it in the "What's in Your Beer Fridge" thread!
