Your employers, however, should not be asking for a W-9. What "tax information" did you feel your employer should have that this gave them? A W-4 is what you would give an employer. Neither a W-4 or W-9 allows the recipient to "access" your tax info...rather it is you giving them your taxpayer ID (and withholding instructions).
