Have a Verizon iPhone 6. Need:

- Occasional calls to U.S.
- Data for Google Maps or another Nav program, as well as the usual e-mail checking/Facebook postings
- Reliable service in the Alps
- Picking up the SIM in France or shipping it to the U.S.

I keep reading about European roaming regulations making it easier for country-hoppers but am still a bit confused. What's my best bet here?

Thanks!
Tough. Thats a lot of countries. I'm not sure the roaming regulations will help you keep cost down yet. I think most of that kicks in at the end of 2015.

Is that the order of your trip? If so, I'd buy a France local SIM then an Italy Vodafone SIM. Roam in Monaco on the France SIM and limit use unless they have a special roaming with Monaco. I think Vodafone Passport covers the rest of your countries.
