I stayed at the hotel in January. I was given the same upgrade.. the hotel was very full due to marathon so I'm happy with what I got. I have the same overall impressions about the hotel as Transcon1. It is shown as 4* on TA and it's accurate. It's nice

What I'm disappointed about is they are no longer offering even continental breakfast. They gave me $10 per person per night coupons and that won't go very far in their restaurant. I contacted guest services manager Daniel Schulaner (pm me for email id). He said he will "take care of us". We had full american breakfast in the restaurant and he comped that for us. He definitely took care of us but the fact that you have to fight for published benefits is annoying.

One thing I will add that the beach here is not as nice as the one near Carlsbad village (5 miles north). So although this property is next to the beach, you won't probably spend all your time here. It's good for a walk and getting some sun but the to get some equipment rental, you will have to drive.

Regardless, this is a good property and we will return. There aren't too many chain options to stay right on teh beach in San Diego area. I researched some properties and many of them are dated and worn out. This is probably one of the better options.
