At 6 ft 4 if I am unable to get a preferred seat the person in front of me is not reclining because my thigh bones are taking up all of the space. This is particularly true in the HD layout as there simply is not sufficient room for me to get by feet under the seat in front and stretch out.
A mod I saw the other day which I liked, on a Transatlantic night flight in a pod the person across from me took an extra duvet from an empty pod and spread it out on their seat and then used the second one as a cover so they had more of a proper bed.
My wife travels with a small down travelling pillow and a travelling cashmere blanket that folds into a matching carrier.
