In any case, DXB-SEA is a long flight. Bulkhead vs. middle seat on that flight makes a big difference. OP should've requested a J/F seat, especially since he's 6'4" or requested the mother go sit in back. Too bad the FAs wasn't more attuned to crocodile tears.
