That's fine. If they don't honor their rules as I read them, I'll be canceling and instantly rebooking using the dates I am asking for, and disputing the $140 change fee with my credit card.

The discount fares often have requirements for a minimum stay or to stay over a weekend. So, you need to make sure that didn't happen with the change you requested.
Another reason to check the fare rules if I can get my hands on them, though I'm going from a 5 week trip to a 3 week trip, so this particular case would not apply.
