It hasn't changed. Do you have an email, website, etc. that says otherwise?
I travel on AA flights every week and always have to ask for the backend way to get on the upgrade list if the established LFBU process doesn't work. Some agents will do it but some won't. Those that say no I don't fault because its not technically something they should be doing.
