how about this as an unintended consequence... Your seat ,from what I understand, is not assigned until you are at the gate. So, to me that means in the event of an oversell and there are no volunteers for a denied boarding, then those folks on the BEC fare will be the first too be the victim of an IDB. Plus, Delta pays them less money because the IDB amount is based on fare paid.
