Changing Seats

So, all those who swear they won't change because someone was "too cheap" to purchase a fare that allowed seat selection: are you gonna question the people regarding the price/fare basis of their ticket? Are you going to ask them if they had preassigned seats that got loused up by DL? Are you going to ask them if they bought expensive last minute tickets for an emergency trip and were assigned at the gate?

Or, is the "I'm not switching for a cheapskate/no-nothing kettle" really just you looking for an excuse to make you seem a little less heartless?
Tuesday offered the perfect example of the answer to this question. I'm in 1b, and girl/guy SO's had been one and two on UG list and were in 1a and 1d. She was waving and winking at him until takeoff wishing they were sitting together. The computer had screwed up my priority on the UG list and put me at the bottom when doing a medical change. So I purchased an UG on the day of the flight to first for $480 on top of the $600 already paid for the base ticket for SJU-ATL-LIT specifically for this FC aisle seat because I didn't care to sit in a middle seat in EC and value the leg room in the bulkhead for four hours being 6'2". So I spent a total of $1,100 for a FC aisle seat on top having of three Reserve cards that each have a $450 annual fee. I can assure you there is no way the SO's are sitting together if it means that I'm moving to a window to make it happen. This the Delta business model, and it works both ways for a mutually satisfactory benefit for both parties. What some call heartless, others call business. If you want to call someone heartless, point at Delta. It's their program, and they make the rules. I follow them happily and expect what is being offered.
