If being used for one A380 or widebody then the A380 follows the centreline in; if being used for two narrowbodies one narrowbody follows a line marked to the left of the centreline (marked as stand xxxL) and the other to the right (stand xxxR). The way the bridges are configured is that the front bridge usually can extend out to the aircraft on the R stand and the second bridge swings round to the aircraft on the L stand. In T3 this is available at stands 303 and 305; in T2 at stand 247 that I know of (possibly more). I don't think it is currently configured at T5. This is the same set up at many airports, e.g. all of the even-numbered gates on the main terminal building at KUL; stands E24, F52 and F54 at SIN; all of the new A380 "K" and "L" stands at CDG 2E/2F; stands 15 and 16 at AKL are ones that immediately spring to mind.
Thanks. I stand corrected. Does simultaneous use of the L and R stand happen much at LHR? I don't remember seeing it myself, but I may have just not noticed it before.
