Based on the recent MPX* thread, the * prefix does not affect the underlying MCC.

Chase does provide MCC info (granted, in words, not numbers). You have to pretend to dispute the trx online to see this info.

My guess is that a coffee shop would be classed as something other than fast food/restaurants.
