This thread is making me reflect on the four particular dinners on Thanksgiving evening that I remember the most clearly: two were overseas with big groups of expats from all over, of which one was just a turkeyless restaurant meal and the other was the big traditional meal with the bird, but hosted by Aussies.
Reminds me of staying at a B&B in rural New Zealand. Proprietor knew we were American and knew of Thanksgiving. He arranged for the nearby inn to cook a traditional dinner for us (well, there were some adaptations), and when we showed up, the American flag was flying on the pole. Seems like this inn had a collection of flags that they use for various occasions. Very touching.
